CD Basconia Forward Marco Diliberto Suffers Torn ACL In Training

Marco Diliberto will miss most of the season with a torn ACL (ZF)

Injuries are never a good thing, especially when they happen to young players who are still in the process of developing. Athletic feared the worst when CD Basconia forward Marco Diliberto went down with a knee injury on Tuesday during training at Lezama. Initial examinations suggested a serious injury and further tests were performed on Wednesday.

The results have confirmed that Diliberto has suffered a torn ACL. At this point, the 18-year-old will begin preparing for surgery which will be followed by several months of rehabilitation. It’s very possible that the Lezama product will return this season as younger players tend to recover from ligament injuries quicker but the most important thing is the player’s health.

Marco Diliberto featured in 16 games for Athletic’s Juvenil A team last season and scored 6 goals. The forward had yet to make his Basconia debut before the knee injury but will hopefully have the chance to do so before the end of the campaign. Diliberto took to social media on Wednesday saying, “Day 1, I know I’ll come back stronger and with more desire than ever.”
