Cristian Ganea Will Miss Toulouse Friendly With Injury
When the transfer window officially slammed shut on 2 September Cristian Ganea was still an Athletic player. The Romanian had been informed at the start of preseason that he would be sent on loan for the year with as many as five Segunda clubs showing interest. However, financial restrictions prevented Ganea from being able to join another team and will stay at San Mamés until at least January.
Ganea got his wish. During the summer he publicly stated that he didn’t want to leave on loan because he felt that he wouldn’t be able to prove himself away from the team and now he will have the next few months to show Gaizka Garitano what he can offer. With the Lions traveling to Bayonne for a friendly against Toulouse on Thursday the Romanian was expected to get important minutes but, unfortunately, that won’t be happening.
During Saturday’s training session Ganea suffered a blow and has been dealing with a deep bruise that has kept him out of training ever since. The plan was for the left-back to start against Toulouse but now he’s been left out of the squad entirely. Instead, Bilbao Athletic’s Jon Rojo and Jesús Areso have both been called up for the game as has Asier Villalibre who also failed to leave on loan during the summer.
