Ruben Azcona Makes Bilbao Athletic Debut In Win Over Haro Deportivo
Ruben Azcona is one of the most promising players to come through Lezama in recent years. The striker shattered scoring records at the academy and last year got his first taste of professional football when he was promoted to CD Basconia. Azcona would go on to feature in 28 games, scoring 7 goals, for the Basauritarras and the hope is that he will take another big step forward this season.
While several players were promoted from Basconia to Bilbao Athletic over the summer, Azcona was not among them. Still just 18-years-old, the striker remained with Basconia where he will be expected to lead the attack. However, an injury to Ewan Urain saw Azcona called up to Bilbao Athletic for Sunday’s league opener against Haro Deportivo which led to a special moment.
Ruben Azcona made his official Bilbao Athletic debut against Haro, coming on for Andoni Tascón in the 84th minute. The young forward may not have been on the field very long but he showed composure and signs that he may very well be ready to test himself in the Segunda B. It’s likely that Azcona will get more chances with Bilbao Athletic this season, but for now the plan is for him to continue with Basconia where will play a major role in the starting lineup.
