Hodei Oleaga Set To Join UD Melilla On Loan
It’s been a long summer for Hodei Oleaga. After being called up to train with the first team, the goalkeeper returned to Bilbao Athletic as the squad traveled to Germany in late July. Oleaga was then informed that he would be sent out on loan, but that was over a month ago and the 22-year-old has been waiting for a move ever since.
Over the past few weeks clubs such as Mirandés and Logroñés have shown interest in signing Oleaga, but a move never materialized. Sporting Director Rafa Alkorta recently admitted that financial restrictions on other clubs have made it difficult to find loan partners. Athletic have continued to look for possible suitors and it now appears as though a deal is in place.
According to a breaking report from Javier Beltrán of AS, Hodei Oleaga will be joining UD Melilla who currently play in the Group 1 of the Segunda B along with other clubs such as Real Madrid Castilla. Melilla are expected to be one of the favorites to challenge for promotion and believe that signing the Lezama product will make them even better. An official announcement is expected soon.
Athletic had hoped to find a loan move for Oleaga in the Segunda, but it became clear that it wasn’t going to happen. Staying in the Segunda B was the next best option for the goalkeeper who will be able to play every weekend on a team fighting for promotion. Hodei Oleaga is currently under contract through 2022 and his deal contains a €30 million release clause.
