Nico Williams Makes Basconia Debut In Win Over Sodupe

Nico Williams made his Basconia debut in Saturday’s 3-2 win over Sodupe (ZF)

Nico Williams is following in the footsteps of his brother Iñaki. Like his older brother, Nico has been one of the standout players in his age group at Lezama and was promoted to the Juvenil A team over the summer. However, before he could even make his Juvenil A debut, the 17-year-old did something even more special.

With Ruben Azcona called up to the Bilbao Athletic team, Williams was included in the squad for Basconia’s season opener against Sodupe. The winger made his professional debut in the 68th minute, coming on for Jon Cabo, and put in an impressive performance in his first Tercera match. Williams looked confident and composed against players much older and will get more chances throughout the season.

Williams will continue to split time between Juvenil A and Basconia and has a bright future ahead. In addition, Juvenil A teammate Adrián Trespalacios has also been registered with Basconia and could make his debut this season as well. The Athletic Juvenil A campaign will begin on 8 September when the Kumeak trave to Mutilvera.
