Bilbao Athletic And CD Basconia End Impressive Preseasons
Athletic kicked off the La Liga season with a thrilling 1-0 win over Barcelona and Bilbao Athletic and CD Basconia are looking to do the same. With Joseba Etxeberría and Patxi Salinas taking over as coaches this summer, the two reserve teams have looked fantastic throughout the summer. Both will officially begin their league seasons this weekend with hopes of finishing near the top of the table.
Bilbao Athletic began the summer with a sensational 4-2 win over Amorebieta. From there the Kumeak played Arenas, Haro, Numancia, and Leioa to draws along with victories against Oyonesa and Alavés. Saturday’s 2-0 loss to Barakaldo in the final friendly was the only loss of the summer for a team that has shown to be very strong. Etxeberria has a squad full of quality that should be able to compete for a top-four finish.
Meanwhile, Salinas has Basconia looking great as well. The Basauritarras have picked up friendly wins over Deusto, Barakaldo, Burgos, and Txantrea along with draws with Cultural, Portugalete, and the Athletic Juvenil A team. Like Bilbao Athletic, Basconia suffered just one loss, a 2-0 defeat to Sestao River last Wednesday, but also have a squad capable of fighting for a top spot in the Tercera table.
It comes as no surprise to see Bilbao Athletic and Basconia playing at a high level. Both teams have starlets who hope to reach the first team soon and many others wanting to prove themselves. It won’t be an easy season for either by any means, but Etxeberría and Salinas will push the players for a strong finish while also preparing them to take the next step in their careers. Bilbao Athletic and Basconia will officially begin their league campaigns this weekend.
