Ibai Gómez And Iñigo Córdoba Miss Training, Iñaki Williams Leaves Session Early
Athletic’s preseason has come to a close and the team will now start preparing for next Friday’s La Liga opener against Barcelona. The Lions have been fortunate with injuries throughout the summer. Iñigo Martinez and Beñat quickly recovered from muscle issues, while Iñigo Lekue hopes to return to training soon. However, a few others are now dealing with their own problems.
Ibai Gómez and Iñigo Córdoba both missed training on Friday. Garitano confirmed after the win over Mirandés that Gómez has had discomfort in his calf and didn’t recover in time to play The club hopes that the injury isn’t serious. On the other hand, Athletic hasn’t given any medical update on Córdoba so at this point anything is pure speculation.
Garitano also revealed after Wednesday’s draw with Roma that Iñaki Williams has been dealing with an infected toenail. The striker was able to train with his teammates on Friday but did not finish the session. Sources claim that he was limited out of precaution and is expected to be ready for the league opener against Barcelona.
Friday’s session was very relaxed after such an intense couple of weeks. The players did light work and will really start working in the days ahead as they prepare to host Barcelona next Friday night at San Mamés. Garitano hopes that all three players will be available and that there will be no more injury issues ahead.
