Andoni López “Coming To Elche Was The Best Decision For My Future”
Andoni López will spend a second straight season away on loan as he strives to earn his place at Athletic. The Lezama product joined Elche on Thursday and was officially presented as the club’s newest player the following day. Speaking to the media, López made it clear that the move to Elche was the best decision to continue developing,
“Coming here was the best decision for my future”, he said. “Elche is a club where I can grow and take that leap that I’m looking for. The coach has asked me to be intense and do what I know how to do with the ball. That’s why I’m here, because I can defend and contribute going forward.”
With an important season ahead, López doesn’t want to look too far into the future. “For me, the important thing is to arriving well for the game against Fuenlabrada and from there to compete every Saturday and Sunday”, explained the defender. “I don’t want to set long-term goals. We have to be focused on the first game and then on the next one. The Segunda is very competitive and there are historic teams with large budgets.”
Elche and manager José Rojo were in serious pursuit of López over the past two weeks and believe that he will add important quality to the team. The 23-year-old will now have the opportunity to play regular playing, although there is no penalty clause in place if Elche do not give the defender a certain number of minutes. Andoni López will work to prove himself and return to Athletic next season ready to fight for a role at San Mamés.
