Manchester United Reportedly Willing To Pay Iñaki Williams’ €88 Million Release Clause
Athletic will kick off their La Liga season in just over a week when the Lions welcome Barcelona to San Mamés. After going the last two years without European football, the Basques are targeting a top-six finish and know that the league will be more competitive than ever before. Players like Iñaki Williams will have to build off of last year’s impressive performances which have also caught the eye of other clubs around Europe.
According to a breaking report from Chiringuito, Manchester United are “going with everything” to sign Williams before the transfer window closes tomorrow and are willing to pay the striker’s €88 million release clause. Losing Williams would be a massive blow for the Lions as he’s expected to lead the attack this season after scoring 15 goals last year. However, the chances of him actually leaving are extremely low.
Throughout his career Williams has been extremely vocal about his desire to become a legend at Athletic and has regularly stated that he has no interest in leaving the club that has given him and his family everything. Over the past few years, the Lezama product has rejected offers from Liverpool and is expected to do the same if Manchester United are serious about their pursuit. The decision will ultimately be down to the player and, if Williams stands by his word, he won’t be going anywhere this summer.
