Álvaro Nuñez Suffers Fractured Collarbone In Training At Lezama
The preseason is an important time for teams to prepare for all the challenges of the upcoming campaign, but also offers younger players the opportunity to prove themselves and compete for minutes. This is certainly the case at Athletic. Over the summer, several starlets were promoted to Bilbao Athletic from CD Basconia with hopes of earning roles and to do that they must convince manager Joseba Etxeberria.
Unfortunately, with the preseason also comes injuries. On Wednesday Athletic announced that Álvaro Nuñez had suffered a fractured left collarbone after colliding with a teammate during training at Lezama. The 19-year-old right-back will now begin recovery and is expected to be sidelined for several weeks.
Last season, Nuñez made 36 appearances for Basconia and scored two goals. While mainly used as a right-back he’s also capable of featuring as a center-back and has shown a lot of exciting potential. It was unlikely that the Lezama product was going to be given regular minutes this season with Jesus Areso and Jon Sillero standing in his way, but for now the most important thing is making a full recovery.
