Iñigo Vicente Joins Mirandés On Loan For The 2019/2020 Season
Iñigo Vicente is one of the most promising young players to come through Athletic in recent memory and is destined for a career at San Mamés. This summer the 21-year-old was given the chance to train with the first team, but with so much competition in the squad he was recently informed by Gaizka Garitano that he would be sent on loan for the upcoming season. Several Segunda clubs contacted Athletic with interest and the starlet was quick to make a decision.
Guaranteed minutes were the most important factor in making a decision, but Vicente also had his own goals as well. The Lezama product wanted to stay close to home and when Mirandés made an offer it presented Vicente with the chance to train under Athletic legend Andoni Iraola. Both clubs quickly began negotiations and an agreement has been reached.
Vicente was not in training on Tuesday due to traveling to complete his medical. Later in the day Athletic officially announced that the 21-year-old has joined Mirandés on loan for the 2019/2020 season and will return to the club next season. Vicente will immediately begin training with his new team and will have the chance to prove himself this year and challenge for a role at San Mamés next summer.
Several other players will be leaving the club this summer and Sporting Director Rafa Alkorta is currently working on completing those moves. Andoni López also missed training on Tuesday and is expected to join Elche, while Hodei Oleaga is also close to signing with Mirandés. Meanwhile, Cristian Ganea has been told that he will be sent out as well but has yet to receive any formal offers. Gaizka Garitano began the preseason with 33 players and hopes to trim the squad down to around 24 before the start of the league season.
