Hodei Oleaga And Andoni López Close To Leaving On Loan, Cristian Ganea Still Without Offers
Athletic manager Gaizka Garitano recently voiced his frustration over the fact that his squad is still too big. The manager began the summer with 33 players and informed several that they would be sent out on loan, but so far no moves have taken place. This week Sporting Director Rafa Alkorta is working hard to reach agreements and a few are now starting to fall into place.
On Monday it was reported that Iñigo Vicente will join Mirandés on loan for the season where he will have the opportunity to train under Athletic legend Andoni Iraola. He may not be the only one. Hodei Oleaga also has an offer from Mirandés, according to a report from Javier Beltrán of AS, and could join Vicente at Anduva. Logroñes are also interested in the goalkeeper, but staying in the Segunda B isn’t the ideal move for Oleaga or Athletic.
Andoni López has been waiting all summer to find out where he will be playing this season and Beltrán reports that a deal with Elche is very close to being completed. Athletic and Elche have a very close relationship and the Lions could even agree to insert a purchase option as part of the transfer. Joining Elche would give López the chance to enjoy regular minutes once again in the Segunda.
Cristian Ganea, on the other hand, is in a very difficult position. The Romanian attracted interest from Sporting, Tenerife, Mirandés, and Malaga but never received a formal offer. As of right now, Ganea doesn’t have any options to leave on loan and could stay at Athletic and try to convince Garitano. The club hasn’t ruled out sending the 27-year-old back to Romania, though they would prefer he stay in Spain. Athletic will continue working on loan agreements with the hope of settling all of the moves before La Liga kicks off next weekend.
