Athletic And Mirandés Reportedly Reach Loan Agreement For Iñigo Vicente
Iñigo Vicente may be one of the most promising young players at Athletic, but the starlet will have to wait another year for his chance with the first team. In a squad full of competition at his position, Vicente would have very few chances if he remained with the club this season. It’s important for the Lezama product to play regular minutes to continue developing and he’s already been told by Gaizka Garitano that he would be sent out on loan.
Over half of the clubs in the Segunda have contacted Athletic with interest in signing Vicente, but one has stood out the most. Recent reports claimed that the 21-year-old wanted to join Mirandés where he would train under Athletic legend Andoni Iraola, and stay close to home, and it now appears as though he will get his wish.
According to a report from Javier Ortiz de Lazcona of El Correo, Athletic have reached an agreement to send Vicente to Mirandés on loan for the year. This will be the starlet’s first taste of the Segunda, but he has already shown that he has the quality and potential to become a very special player. For newly promoted Mirandés, Vicente will be a huge addition to the team.
Mirandés will give Vicente regular minutes and the chance to prove that he deserves a role at San Mamés next season, though the biggest factor in the decision was the opportunity to train under Iraola. Both Athletic and Iñigo Vicente believed that Mirandés was the best option for the player and a formal announcement is expected very soon, possibly on Tuesday.
