Previewing Numancia vs Athletic Club

Iker Muniain Celebrate Paderborn

Athletic are unbeaten through three preseason friendlies (AC)

It’s been an impressive preseason so far for Athletic. With the entire summer to prepare for the upcoming La Liga campaign, the team has adapted well to Gaizka Garitano’s system and have shown it during friendly matches. The Lions defeated Arenas 6-1 in their opening game followed by a 3-3 draw with Paderborn and a 2-0 win over Borussia Monchengladbach last weekend in Germany.

Athletic will play their fourth friendly on Thursday as the Basques travel to Soria to face off with Numancia at Los Pajaritos. Garitano has publically stated that he prefers matches against stronger opponents so with weekend games against West Ham and Racing on the horizon the Miser has left our most of the stars. Garitano has even called up a few players who have already been told that we will be sent out on loan.

Thursday’s match could see several younger players enjoy heavy minutes with others rested for West Ham. It will be a great opportunity for the likes of Dani Vivian, Oihan Sancet, Iñigo Vicente, and Asier Villalibre to show what they can do. Of course, the most important thing is to have a strong performance but the Lions will want to secure another victory to continue their unbeaten streak this summer.

Possible Athletic Club XI: Unai Simón, Oscar De Marcos, Dani Vivian, Peru Nolaskoain, Cristian Ganea, Mikel Vesga, Unai López, Gaizka Larrazabal, Oihan Sancet, Iñigo Vicente, and Asier Villalibre
