Peru Nolaskoain may be one of the most promising young players at Athletic, but the 20-year-old will not have a place in the first team this season. After four weeks of preseason training, Gaizka Garitano has informed the Lezama product that he will be sent out on loan and several clubs from the Segunda have stepped up with offers. With the summer soon coming to a close a decision has now been made.

According to several reports in Bizkaia, Peru Nolaskoain has agreed to join Deportivo on loan for the upcoming season. Sporting and Elche were also serious contenders for the starlet and were allowed to speak directly to the player, but in the end Nolaskoain chose Deportivo as his destination after weighing up all of the options. The Galicians have guaranteed regular minutes and offered to pay more of his wages than any other club.

It’s unknown whether or not Deportivo will use Nolaskoain as a midfielder or defender, but his versatility makes him even more valuable. He has been used solely as a center-back during friendlies this summer, but with Iñigo Martinez returning from injury he is now free to leave on loan. Nolaskoain had hoped to convince Garitano, but with so much competition in the team he would rarely see the field if he stayed at Athletic.

The 20-year-old will now have the opportunity to be on the field every single weekend to prove that he deserves a place at San Mamés next year. Peru Nolaskoain will also join former Athletic players Eneko Boveda and Ager Aketxe, both of whom are in the Deportivo squad. A formal announcement from Athletic is expected very soon.
