CD Basconia 2-1 Barakaldo: Basconia Contine To Impress Under Patxi Salinas
CD Basconia played their first true preseason friendly on Wednesday and are looking very impressive under new manager Patxi Salinas. The Basauritarras hosted Barakaldo at Lezama and were by far the better side over the 90 minutes. Preparing against stronger opponents is always ideal, and beating one will certainly build confidence.
Ruben Azcona opened up the scoring in the 39th minute. The striker saw his first effort his the post but reacted quickly to clean up the rebound to put Basconia ahead. Julen Agirrezabala was called into action as well and was forced to make a diving save to keep the visitors from equalizing.
The Mister made several changes to start the second half and even more as the game continued. It wouldn’t take long for Basconia to double their lead when Josu Juste with a great strike. Barakaldo would eventually pull a goal back in the 90th minute when they were awarded a penalty, but the match soon ended with Basconia having won 2-1 convincingly over an opponent from a high division.
