Previewing Borussia Monchengladbach vs Athletic Club

Muniain Celebrate Paderborn

Athletic drew 3-3 with Paderborn on Saturday (EC)

Athletic will wrap up their time in Germany on Sunday as the Lions face off with Borussia Monchengladbach in the third friendly of the preseason. The Bundesliga side will be the strongest team Athletic have faced so far this summer and will give the Basques a good test to see where they are after three weeks of training. It will be an intense match and Athletic want to show they are up for the challenge.

Gaizka Garitano has already revealed that the starting lineup will be completely different from the one that took the field on Saturday against Paderborn. Iñaki Williams, Dani García, and Unai López all missed the first friendly and are expected to be in the team against Borussia. The remainder of the eleven will consist of players who came on late in the draw 24 hours earlier.

As is always the case with preseason friendlies, the result isn’t very important. Garitano is more focused on how the team performs overall and that no one picks up an injury. That being said, Borussia will be a huge test for the Basques who will want to secure a victory to build confidence with just a few weeks until they kick off the La Liga season against Barcelona.

Probable Athletic Club XI: Unai Simón, Ander Capa, Unai Nuñez, Peru Nolaskoain, Yuri Berchiche, Dani García, Unai López, Ibai Gómez, Iker Muniain, Iñigo Córdoba, and Iñaki Williams
