Iñigo Martinez Returns To Training
It’s been nearly two weeks since Iñigo Martinez reported to preseason, but a muscle injury has kept the defender from being able to join his teammates. Instead, he’s worked separately with the goal of being ready for the start of the La Liga season. The 28-year-old was able to travel with the squad for this week’s training trip to Germany and finally has some good news.
On Thursday, Martinez was able to join his teammates in a few drills and was even used as a neutral player during scrimmages, which is usually the last step before fully returning to training. The following day he was able to be fully reincorporated into the group and all signs point to him being ready to play against Barcelona in the opening game of the season at San Mamés.
Martinez’s muscle injury was never serious, but the club has been very cautious with his recovery. The defender will not play in this weekend’s friendlies against Paderborn or Borussia Monchengladbach but could be available for at least a few of the remaining five matches this summer.
