Iñigo Martinez Takes Next Step In Recovery
Iñigo Martinez returned from summer vacation last Monday but so far hasn’t been able to join his teammates in training. During his medical, the defender was found to have a slight muscle injury and the decision was made for him to train apart from the group in order to recover. Martinez has been running and working out in the gym, but on Tuesday he took another step forward in his recovery.
As the Lions took the field for their second day of training in Germany, Martinez was able to do some work with the ball at his feet. The defender showed no signs of pain or any other issues which suggest that he may be able to join his teammates very soon. Even if Martinez begins fully training in the next few days, it’s unlikely that he will participate in the team’s two friendlies this weekend. Iñigo Lekue continued running with trainer Xabier Clemente as he recovers from his own muscle injury.
It was a hot morning in Germany as the Lions trained with Garitano organizing drills that focused on putting balls into the box and finishing chances. The team also worked on defending, creating pressure, and protecting possession. To end the session, the players exercised to loosen muscles and build strength. The team will train again this evening at 6:30pm.
