Athletic Kickoff Training In Germany With Three Sessions On Monday
Athletic touched down in Germany on Sunday night and checked into the Klosterpforte Hotel in Marienfeld where they will spend the entire week training for the start of the La Liga season. The hotel is used by football clubs around Europe for trips such as these and contains fields on the premises as well as workout facilities. Gaizka Garitano has prepared an intense schedule for his players that began earlier than expected.
The team was scheduled to train on Monday at 10:30am and 6:30pm but had a third session added in the morning at 8:30am. Conditioning Coach Juan Iribarren split the squad into three groups and organized races around the hotel grounds which he had set up after arriving the night before.
Garitano wants to make this trip to Germany the most important week of the preseason and has emphasized hard work and intensity. The team will train twice each day, except for having the day off on Wednesday, before playing friendlies over the weekend. Athletic will face off with Paderborn at Energieversum Stadium on Saturday followed by a match against Borussia Monchengladbach at Christopeit Sport Arena on Sunday.
