Iñaki Williams is coming off of his best season with the Athletic first team, scoring a career-high 15 goals. A permanent move to striker saw the 24-year-old with more chances than ever before, though he wasn’t able to find the back of the net with consistency. Finishing continued to be an issue for Williams and he’s been working hard to improve this area of his game.

“Aduriz always tells me to be calm in front of goal”, said Williams last season. “He helps me a lot and I want to keep learning from him.” If Athletic’s 6-1 win over Arenas on Saturday is anything to go by, Williams is taking great strides to be more clinical in front of goal.

Coming on to start the second half, Williams scored twice and both were sublime finishes. The first goal started with a through ball from Oihan Sancet that the striker blasted past the keeper from the top of the box. The second game in the form of a chipped volley. Two chances, two goals, and Williams was perfectly calm and confident when striking the ball.

Apart from the impressive finishes, Williams scored both goals without the use of his tremendous speed. Historically, it’s been his pace that has set up chances but the forward was able to score against Arenas with great positioning and movement. Of course, the great performance came against a much weaker opponent but seeing such lethal finishing from Iñaki Williams is certainly something to be excited about moving forward.
