Preseason Training Begins For CD Basconia
Playing for CD Basconia is the first step into the world of professional football for many Lezama graduates. The team, which competes in the Tercera, prepares young players to make the jump to Bilbao Athletic and, ultimately, to San Mamés. Even though youth development is the top priority, Basconia also aims to compete at a high level and win games.
Preseason training officially began for Basconia on Wednesday as new manager Patxi Salinas addressed the media before the team took Field 5 at Lezama. A total of 14 players from last year’s squad have left, in addition to another 9 who have been promoted to Bilbao Athletic. Sixteen have returned, including six who spent the previous season away on loan.
The squad has been reinforced with seven players promoted from Juvenil A as well as one signing in Leioa goalkeeper Gorka Campo. Salinas has 24 players currently at his disposal and there’s a chance that some could be sent back down from Bilbao Athletic if they aren’t able to earn a place in the team during the preseason.
The 2019/2020 CD Basconia squad is as follows:
Goalkeepers: Aritz De Miguel, Sergio García, Gorka Campo, and Julen Agirrezabala
Defenders: Xabier Arberas, Iker Salvador, Deiby Ochoa, Mikel Kortazar, Asier Arana, Aritz Ruiz De Mendarozqueta, and Ander Lorente
Midfielders: Gorka Estrada, Gorka Agirre, Youssouf Diarra, Xabier Naveira, Ander Dulce, Unai Naveira, and Jon Guruzeta
Forwards: Jon Cabo, Ruben Azcona, Javier Rudi, Keenan Mendibelzua, Marco Diliberto, Alejandro Ibarrondo, and Josu Juste
