Peru Nolaskoain Reportedly Set To Join Real Zaragoza On Loan

Peru Nolaskoain will join Real Zaragoza on loan for the upcoming season (AC)

Peru Nolaskoain was one of the revelations for Athletic at the start of last season. Having been moved from his natural position as a midfielder to a center-back, the Lezama product made his debut and scored in the opening game of the campaign against Leganés. However, as the weeks passed by his chances grew slim and after a few months the starlet was back with Bilbao Athletic.

Current Athletic manager Gaizka Garitano doesn’t view Nolaskoain as a defender and wants him to return to the midfield. In fact, when Nolaskoain featured with Garitano’s Bilbao Athletic last season he was mainly used in his regular role. The 20-year-old has even admitted that he’s much more comfortable in the midfield. There is one slight problem; the first team is already full of midfielders and there won’t be enough minutes to go around.

Before the preseason began at least seven clubs from the Segunda had requested to sign Nolaskoain on loan with Real Zaragoza said to be leading the race. Athletic’s plan was to send the 20-year-old away for the year, but Garitano made it clear that he wanted to see Nolaskoain in training before making a final decision. On Monday morning the manager informed Nolaskoain that he will be spending the season on loan according to a report from Pedro Luis Ferrer of AS.

As expected, Nolaskoain will be joining with Real Zaragoza. It’s been over a month since Zaragoza first contacted Athletic and the two clubs have finally reached an agreement, say reports in Zaragoza. Both Athletic and Nolaskoain view Zaragoza as the best destination because of the guaranteed playing time and opportunities that he will have while on loan. A formal announcement is expected soon and Nolaskoain could join Real Zaragoza before Athletic leave for Germany on Sunday.

Peru Nolaskoain is currently under contract with Athletic through 2024 with a €60 million release clause. The 20-year-old wants to succeed at Athletic and this loan move will give him the chances to prove himself and return to the club next season ready to earn a role in the team.
