Almeria Add Asier Villalibre To Their List Of Loan Targets From Athletic Club

Almeria have had a strong relationship with Athletic for many years. Last summer, the Lions sent Andoni López to Almeria on loan and this summer could see the two clubs partner together once again. With 33 players currently in the squad, there isn’t room for everyone at San Mamés and Almeria could be a loan destination for at least one player.

Last week, reports suggested that Almeria were interested in signing both Iñigo Vicente and Gaizka Larrazabal. The Andalusians are looking to strengthen their attack ahead of a competitive season in the Segunda and believe that the duo would add needed quality. Before anyone leaves, Gaizka Garitano will first give every player the chance to earn their place at Athletic.

Almeria’s chances of signing Larrazabal appear to be over. The 21-year-old has already convinced the manager and will start the season as a member of the first team. Vicente, however, is still trying to do just that. Capable of playing on the wing, but much better in a central role, Vicente has a lot of competition to stay at San Mamés and could still be headed for a loan move.

With Larrazabal no longer an option, reports in Almeria now claim that the club has turned their attention to another Athletic starlet in Asier Villalibre. The 21-year-old led Bilbao Athletic in scoring last season with 23 goals but isn’t guaranteed a place in the first team. Iñaki Williams, Aritz Aduriz, and Kenan Kodro are all battling for a striker role which means that Villalibre could also be headed for a loan.

Signing both Villalibre and Vicente would be excited for Almeria. The pair have played a lot of football together and have proven that they are ready to take the next step in their careers. However, both are hoping to earn a place in the first team instead of having to leave for the year. Several other clubs from the Segunda are also said to be interested in the starlets and, if they leave, Athletic will look to send them wherever they will be guaranteed the most playing time.
