There was a big surprise on Wednesday when Spain U19 manager Santi Denia announced the squad list for the team’s trip to Armenia. Athletic starlet Oihan Sancet, who has been an integral part of the team, was left out and allowed to return to Bilbao to start preseason training. Afterward, the club announced that Sancet would immediately report to Lezama.

Sancet was absent on Thursday but showed up to training on Friday morning where he began by having his physical with the team Doctors and professionals from IMQ. The 19-year-old then joined his teammates in training much earlier than previously expected which could be massive for the midfielder’s development.

Being left out of the Spain squad will surely be a disappointment on a personal level, but having more time to train with Athletic may be the best thing for Sancet. Viewed as one of the most promising young players at the club, several sources have stated that it’s very possible Sancet will be able to earn a permanent place with the first team this summer. Having more time to train will give the starlet a much better chance to prove himself to Gaizka Garitano.

Now that Sancet has reported to training, only three players are still absent due to extended vacations. Iñigo Martinez actually visited Lezama on Thursday ahead of schedule but will not officially rejoin the team until Monday. Meanwhile, Unai Simón and Unai Nuñez are not expected to return until the team leaves for their week-long training trip to Germany on 21 July.
