Raúl García In Final Stages Of Renewal Talks With Athletic Club
Raúl García has been one of the most important players at Athletic since joining the club in 2015. After 169 games and 48 goals, the midfielder turns 33 years old today and has no plans to retire anytime soon. García’s current contract with Athletic is set to expire at the end of the season, but the Osasuna product will continue at San Mamés.
For the past few weeks, the club and player have been in talks regarding a contract extension. Athletic have made it clear that they want García to continue in Bilbao and the midfielder expressed that his goal is to extend his deal with the Basque giants. Naturally, negotiations have progressed quickly and without any issues and are now in the final stages with just fringe details left to settle.
Sources have reported that the contract extension could be announced as early as this week, but the final details must be completed first. García is expected to sign a one-year renewal, possibly with an option for a second, and could even choose not to insert a release clause in the contract. Rulo, as he is affectionately called by Athletic fans, is one of the most influential players at the club and will continue his career at San Mamés for at least two more seasons.
