Oihan Sancet Will Begin Preseason Training Early After Being Left Out Of The Spain U19 Squad
Oihan Sancet was expected to miss a large portion of preseason training due to competing with the Spain U19 team. The midfielder has been training with his international teammates over the past few days, but there was an unexpected change on Wednesday. Manager Santi Denia left Sancet off of the 20-man squad that will travel to Armenia.
Now that his international duty has been cut short, Sancet can turn his focus back to Athletic. After Spain released the squad list that didn’t include Sancet, Athletic announced that the 19-year-old will immediately join his club teammates in preseason training at Lezama. Sancet will leave the Spain squad and could be back with Athletic as early as Thursday.
Returning to Athletic so soon could prove important for Sancet. The midfielder trained with the first team last summer but was eventually sent to Bilbao Athletic where he suffered a torn ACL early in the season. This summer, Sancet has a realistic chance of earning a place in Gaizka Garitano’s squad. Being able to join training sooner than expected improves his chances of convincing the manager. Being left out of the Spain squad is certainly a disappointment for Oihan Sancet, but returning to Athletic so early is very exciting.
