Bilbao Athletic Placed In Segunda B Group II For The 2019/2020 Season
The first team officially began preseason training last Thursday and Bilbao Athletic will soon follow. The Katxorros are scheduled to start their own preseason on 15 July where Joseba Etxeberria will begin his tenure as the Bilbao Athletic manager. In the meantime, the players have been enjoying their summer vacations while also waiting to learn who will be their opponents this season.
Unlike the First and Second divisions, the Segunda B is broken up into four separate groups. These are normally based on geographical location in Spain, but that isn’t always the case. On Wednesday the groups were officially announced with Bilbao Athletic being placed into Group II along with other clubs from the Basque Country.
Joining Bilbao Athletic in Group II are Bizkaian clubs Barakaldo, Amorebieta, Leioa, and Arenas. Real Unión and Real Sociedad B represent Gipuzkoa, and Alavés B comes from Álava. Navarran clubs Izarra, Tudelano, and Osasuna B as well as La Rioja’s Calahorra, Haro Deportivo, and Logroñés are included as well. The remaining six spots are taken by Salamanca, Cultural Leonesa, Guijuelo, Burgos, Salmantino, and Real Valladolid B from Castilla y León.
Bilbao Athletic will be a different team this season after seeing several players promoted and others leave the club. Joseba Etxeberria has taken over as the manager and the team will be strengthened with promotions from CD Basconia as well as a few promising players returning from loan. As always, the goal will be to qualify for the promotional playoffs and the Katxorros now know their competition.
