Almeria Targeting Loan Moves For Athletic Starlets Iñigo Vicente And Gaizka Larrazabal

There won’t be room for everyone at Athletic this season. With a squad of 33 players and no European competition, Gaizka Garitano will have limited minutes to give to players this season and that means that several will have to leave. Six players from Bilbao Athletic have been called up to train with the first team this summer and all of them have received loan interest from clubs in the Segunda.

Two of the most coveted starlets are, without a doubt, Iñigo Vicente and Gaizka Larrazabal. Last year the pair combined to scored 19 goals and provide 20 assists at Bilbao Athletic, showing that they have the quality to become special players. Garitano has already made it clear that he will give every player the opportunity to earn their place in the squad this summer, but if the two aren’t able to do that they already have suitors lining up.

Reports out of Andalucia claim that Almeria have already contacted Athletic to express their interest in signing both Vicente and Larrazabal on loan for the upcoming season. The Segunda side are hoping to compete for promotion this year and believe that adding both attackers would give them a strong attack and versatility up front. At this point Vicente and Larrazabal are solely focused on convincing Garitano, but the club will field offers until decisions are made.

Athletic already have a good relationship with Almeria after sending Andoni López to the club last season on loan. There’s also belief that Almeria would like to bring López back, but there’s been no contact with Athletic on the matter. The most important thing for young players is to have regular minutes to continue developing and there will be no shortage of loan offers from Athletic starlets who aren’t able to earn a place at San Mamés this summer.
