Iñigo Ruiz De Galarreta “Alkorta Already Said That I’m Not An Option”
Despite enjoying an impressive season with Las Palmas, Iñigo Ruiz de Galarreta won’t be making his return to Athletic this summer. “Iñigo is a great player and we all like him, but we aren’t interested”, said Sporting Director Rafa Alkorta in a recent interview. “We have seven or eight midfielders and we don’t believe that signing him would be an improvement.”
The 25-year-old has long dreamed of returning to Athletic, though he understands the situation. “Alkorta has already said that there are many players in my position at Athletic and today I’m not an option”, Galarreta explained. “I have a contract and it’s true that summers are long. The club must make decisions and we don’t know what will happen, but we must be focused on having an important year.”
There’s still a possibility that Galarreta could move to the Primera with clubs like Osasuna interested in a potential transfer. For now, Galarreta is focused on doing his best with Las Palmas. “I’m here focused and excited, with batteries recharged. I’m working hard to be 100% as soon as possible. I have a contract and I’m very comfortable, so in principle, I will continue here.”
Galarreta may not be returning this summer, but there will always be a possibility. The Lezama product is entering the prime of his career while current players like Mikel San José and Beñat are aging. Others, such as Unai López and Mikel Vesga, are still trying to establish themselves so there is still a chance that Iñigo Ruiz de Galarreta could come back to San Mamés one day if he continues to play at a high level.
