Athletic have had their eyes on Roberto Navarro for a few years now. The midfielder was born in raised in Barcelona to a Basque father and Catalan mother but trained at Osasuna’s academy from the ages of 8-11. At that point, he joined La Masia before leaving last summer for Monaco. Still just 17 years old, Navarro is viewed as one of the top young players in Europe.

Navarro’s decision to leave Barcelona wasn’t easy but it was necessary. In a recent interview, the midfielder admitted that the Catalans didn’t keep their promises to give him chances at the club so he departed for France where, last season, he became the youngest player to ever debut in Ligue 1. Despite the success, a return to Spain could be the next step for the starlet.

According to a report from Mundo Deportivo, Navarro is said to be unhappy with life at Monaco and wants to leave the club this summer. So far, Athletic have been unwilling to attempt to sign the 17-year-old because Monaco would be sure to demand a substantial fee for such a promising young player. However, Navarro’s desire to leave could significantly lower his transfer fee which would make a deal much more possible for Athletic.

The heavy interest from Athletic has been well-known for quite some time, but they aren’t the only ones. Roberto Navarro is a top young player and it’s only natural that other big clubs would be monitoring his progression and situation as well. Reports in France go on to explain that Navarro has already received offers from clubs in Spain and England. Athletic are said to be one of the clubs who have made an offer for Navarro who has the same agent as some current players and has several friends at Lezama.
