Markel Susaeta Rejects Offers To Play In Mexico
After joining Lezama at 9 years old and going on to feature in 507 matches for the Athletic first team, next season Markel Susaeta will call another club home. The 30-year-old recently made the decision not to sign a contract renewal with his boyhood club but will continue playing football. Susaeta will be patient in making a decision and already has several offers.
The former Athletic captain has attracted interest from America, Japan, South Korea, and Australia. Just recently more possible destinations have come to light with Javier Ortiz De Lazcano of El Correo reporting that Monterrey and Atlético San Luis from Mexico have contacted Susaeta. Monterrey is one of the most storied clubs in Mexican football while Atlético San Luis earned promotion to the first division last season with help from former Bilbao Athletic defender Unai Bilbao.
Susaeta has already rejected the offers to play in Mexico, along with other offers from Greece and Turkey. The 30-year-old still hasn’t made a decision as to where he wants to play next season but has made it clear that he will leave Europe in order to avoid ever having to play against Athletic. No matter where he ends up, Markel Susaeta will always be Athletic.
