Raúl García Expected To Sign Contract Renewal Before The Start Of Preseason Training
Raúl García has been one of the most important players at San Mamés since joining Athletic from Atlético Madrid back in 2015. During his 4 seasons in Bilbao, García has made 169 appearances, scored 48 goals, and established himself as a leader within the team. Now, at 33 years old, Rulo is entering the final year of his contract and Athletic have no plans of parting ways with the midfielder.
Athletic and García have been in renewal talks for a few weeks now with both sides eager to reach an agreement. The Osasuna product has already expressed his desire to continue at San Mamés past this coming season and, as an integral part of Gaizka Garitano’s team, that’s exactly what will happen.
Negotiations have gone well and progressed quickly, according to a report from Javier Ortiz De Lazcano El Correo, and the two sides expect to finalize an agreement before the start of preseason. The new deal will add an addition year to García’s current contract, securing his future with Athletic through 2021.
Raúl García was a crucial part of Gaizka Garitano’s team last year and is expected to continue playing a major role moving forward. The 33-year-old is capable of scoring goals from anywhere and brings proven leadership on and off the field. García has no plans to leave Athletic anytime soon and has publically stated that he isn’t thinking about retirement at all right now. He and his family are very happy in Bilbao where he has become a fan favorite at San Mamés.
