Athletic Club Announce Preseason Friendly Against Arenas Club On 20 July
In just over two weeks the Athletic players will return to Lezama to begin preseason training on 4 July. Gaizka Garitano will have a total of 33 players in the squad and will spend the summer trimming the list to put together the strongest team possible to compete for European qualification. The preseason schedule has already begun to take shape and the club has now confirmed a 4th friendly.
On Monday Athletic officially announced that the Lions will play a friendly against Arenas Club on 20 July. The game will take place at Fadura, the home stadium for CD Getxo, and will kick off at noon. Arenas is a local club founded in 1909 and is, along with Athletic, one of the most historic clubs in Bizkaia
Along with the Arenas match, Athletic have also announced friendlies against Numancia, West Ham, and Racing that will all take place in early August. The list could soon grow to five games with Elche having invited Athletic to play in the Festa D’Elx Cup later in August but the two clubs must first find a date that works for both. The Lions are also planning to spend a week training and playing friendlies in another country, which has become a tradition over the past few years, but nothing has been decided at this point.
