Athletic Club And IMQ Renew Health Security Certification
San Mamés is one of Europe’s premier football stadiums. From design and functionality to the atmosphere and grandeur, the Cathedral is a modern marvel. Apart from being the home of Athletic Club de Bilbao, San Mamés also hosted the 2018 European Rugby Finals and will host four matches in next summer’s EURO 2020. It’s one of the most admired stadiums in all of football, and also one of the safest.
In 2017 Athletic Club and medical partners IMQ acquired UNE certification for patient safety, making San Mamés the only football stadium in Europe to have its health security certified. This certification saw San Mamés become the leader for health and safety in the world of football.
Acquiring certification is no small task, and neither is retaining it. The medical staff is constantly monitored and must continue to meet the requirements and measures that are in place. Earlier this week Athletic announced that their certification has officially been renewed following two very successful years alongside partners IMQ.
The Athletic health team consists of 12 medical professionals present for every match – four doctors, eight nurses, and one additional person responsible for operations. Also, there are always three ambulances on site at San Mamés, including an ICU transport for Advanced Life Support. To this date, San Mamés remains the only European football stadium with UNE certification for Patient Safety and the renewal of this certification reflects the fine work being done by the Athletic medical staff and IMQ.
