Julen Guerrero Named Spain Ambassador For Euro 2020
The club football season has come to an end and international football has arrived. This summer, Spain will be competing in European qualifiers as La Roja prepare for the illustrious tournament next year. Lifting the EURO 2020 title would be Spain’s 3rd European trophy and this team is already being touted as one of the favorites.
EURO 2020 will take place across 11 host cities, including Bilbao where games will be played at San Mamés. This will be a special opportunity for the city of Bilbao and for all of the Basque Country. With San Mamés set to welcome international games next summer, Spain is looking to tap into the heart of the Cathedral.
On Tuesday it was revealed that Athletic legend Julen Guerrero has been chosen as one of the two ambassadors for Spain during EURO 2020. The other ambassador will be Carlos Marchena and the pair will be formally presented on Wednesday at San Mamés. Fellow Athletic legends Txetxu Rojo and Iraia Iturregi will also be presented as the representatives for San Mamés.
As a Spain ambassador, Guerrero will play a major role by representing the hundreds of volunteers that will be working to make the tournament run as smoothly as possible. Throughout his career, Julen Guerrero featured 41 times for the Spain National Team and currently serves as the manager of the U15 and U16 teams.
