Raúl García In Talks To Renew Contract With Athletic Club
Raúl García will turn 33 next month but age is just a number when it comes to the passionate midfielder the fans call Rulo. Since joining Athletic back in 2015, García has scored 48 goals in 169 appearances and has been one of the most important players in the team. The Osasuna was a vital part of Gaizka Garitano’s squad last season and looks set to continue his future at San Mamés.
Entering the final year of his contract, García’s future with Athletic has been in question. It’s no secret that the midfield wants to end his career with his boyhood club Osasuna, though he isn’t thinking about retirement at all right now. According to a report from Javier Ortiz De Lazcano of El Correo, Athletic have already begun renewal talks with García who has expressed his interest in extending his deal for another year.
García will play a pivotal role for the Lions next season and there’s no doubt that he will be able to do so once again the following year. At this point, there is no hurry to get a deal done, but Athletic would like to reach an agreement before the season starts so that it doesn’t become an issue down the road. For his part, Raúl García wants to continue at Athletic and sources claim that finalizing a deal is expected to be simple.
Alongside García, Mikel San José and Beñat are also entering the final year of their current contracts. Both midfielders were important to Garitano last season but will have to prove themselves once again this year if they are to be given renewal offers. Athletic are already studying their situations in order to be ready when the time comes to negotiate.
