Andoni Tascón Ready To Compete For A Starting Role At Bilbao Athletic Next Season

Andoni Tascón had a massively successful loan spell with Amorebieta (EC)

Bilbao Athletic will look very different next year. In addition to Joseba Etxeberria being named the new manager, there will be plenty of turnover in the squad which is normally the case. Six players will spend the preseason with the first team, others will leave altogether, and nine have been promoted from CD Basconia. It will be up to Etxeberria to put it all together, but his biggest challenge will be sorting out the attack.

Asier Villalibre, Iñigo Vicente, and Gaizka Larrazabal have all been promoted while Asier Benito and Iñigo Muñoz will leave the club this summer. The five forwards accounted for 51 of the team’s 66 goals last season. Replacing their production won’t be easy. As usual, the club is hopeful that those coming up from Basconia will be able to fill the void, yet there is another player who is ready to carry some of the load.

Andoni Tascón was promoted from Basconia last summer, though with so much competition in the squad he was quickly sent to Amorebieta on loan. The young striker hit the ground running and was a massive success. Tascón featured in 36 matches, scoring 10 goals, and has earned his place in Etxeberria’s team next season.

The 20-year-old isn’t the same type of striker as Villalibre. He’s not a pure goalscorer, but he can still find the back of the net with impressive positioning and speed. The Lezama product also links up well with teammates to create chances. After his first season in the Segunda B Tascón is ready to take another step forward at Bilbao Athletic and challenge for a role in the starting lineup.
