Alavés Showing Interest In Signing Former Athletic Midfielder Ander Iturraspe
Ander Iturraspe time at Athletic has come to an end. After joining Lezama at just 10 years old and going on to make 320 appearances for the first team, the midfielder said his goodbyes last month after the final home game of the season. Ever since it was announced that Iturraspe wouldn’t be given a new contract he’s been fielding offers from other clubs and there’s a chance that he could stay in La Liga.
Over the past few weeks PAOK and Leeds have been linked to Iturraspe. Both clubs are said to be willing to sign the midfielder and a move to Leeds could be interesting due to the history with manager Marcelo Bielsa. However, another potential suitor has since joined the race with fellow Basque club Alavés also interested in signing the 30-year-old.
Jon Aroca of El Correo is reporting that Alavés have already contacted Iturraspe over a possible move with new manager Asier Garitano said to be high on the Lezama product. It’s no secret that Iturraspe fits Garitano’s preferences for a midfielder – tall and strong – and pairing him with Manu Garcia could work nicely.
Alavés need to improve their depth in the middle of the field and Iturraspe’s experience could be the perfect fit. As of right now they have yet to submit a formal offer, but there is a chance that Ander Iturraspe could call the Mendizorrtza home next season.
