Asier Villalibre And Gaizka Larrazabal Excited To Be Called Up To Euskal Selekzioa
Asier Villalibre and Gaizka Larrazabal enjoyed a fantastic season with Bilbao Athletic which saw both sign new contracts and be promoted to the first team. This summer they will have the opportunity to earn a place in Gaizka Garitano’s squad, but first they will be competing with the Basque National Team on Wednesday night against Panama.
“Being here is a dream”, Villalibre told EFF. “I had some bad times last year I didn’t think that today I would be here with Euskal Selekzioa. The first thing I have to do is say thank you to the coach because I am very happy. I hope that we will all get to play. It will be special and I will keep this experience for a lifetime. In the end, when you work with very good people, your work will be seen more and I have to take advantage of this opportunity.”
Larrazabal had the best season of his young career and traveling to Panama is an exciting way to wrap up the campaign. “I have evolved a lot as a player since the beginning of the season”, said the 21-year-old. “I think that coming here is the best way to end the year. I’m very excited. I’m here with high-level players that I have watched since I was a child. Being able to play with them, learn from them, and compete with them is incredible. I’m happy to be here.”
Just being able to travel with Euskadi is great, but Larrazabal also wants to compete and make the most of this special opportunity. He went on to explain that Panama will be a good test for the Basques who will hopefully come away with a victory. “We know that Panama is a strong opponent. They are preparing for the Gold Cup and being able to play against them and compete in a difficult game makes this a nice challenge.”
