Iñigo Ruiz De Galarreta “Athletic Is My Home and Going Back Someday Would Be A Dream”
Iñigo Ruiz De Galarreta is a wanted man. The former Lezama standout is coming off of the best season of his career where he made 36 appearances, scored 2 goals, and provided 2 assists. Galarreta showed the quality that always made him shine at the Athletic academy and other clubs have definitely taken notice. At this point, it’s almost certain that he will move to the Primera this summer.
Athletic and Real Sociedad are both interested in signing Galarreta, but the only solid offer so far has come from Osasuna. Los Rojillos recently earned promotion back to La Liga and have already submitted a €3 million offer to Las Palmas according to a report from Jesús Izquierdo of Marca. Galarreta’s release clause is currently set at €30 million, but Las Palmas need to bring in money this summer and are willing to sell the 25-year-old for a much lower price.
Galarreta said in a recent interview that he hasn’t been informed of any offers or interest from other clubs. “I have a contract with Las Palmas”, the midfielder answered. “My idea is to be here next year, although in football you never know and anything can happen.” After another impressive season, no one really expects Galarreta to stay with Las Palmas next season.
Whether or not Athletic will seriously pursue Galarreta remains to be seen. There is already a lot of competition in the squad at the midfield position, but Rafa Alkorta has admitted that the club has been monitoring his progression. “Athletic has always been my home and going back there someday would be a dream”, responded when asked about a potential return. Galarreta seems ready to take the next step in his career and would love for that to be at San Mamés.
