Atlético Madrid Reportedly Willing To Pay Yeray’s €30 Million Release Clause
Yeray had his best season for the Athletic first team and finished the year as one of the best center-backs in all of La Liga. The 24-year-old made 32 appearances for the Lions and rarely put a foot wrong. He was a stalwart at the back and formed a strong pairing with Iñigo Martinez. In a sense, his performances were underrated but other clubs definitely took notice.
According to a report from Sergio Viñas of El Mundo, Atlético Madrid have their eyes on Yeray. With Diego Godin and Lucas Hernandez both leaving the club this summer, Diego Simeone’s side will need reinforcements. With a release clause of just €30 million, Yeray would be easily affordable. Atlético have other options as well, but there’s no denying the fact that Yeray has proven himself in the Primera.
Athletic have big plans for Yeray. The Lezama product is viewed as one of the stars of the present and future, as well as someone who is already developing into a true leader. That being the case, the club has already been in renewal talks with the defender for a few weeks now. Athletic plan to offer Yeray a new contract that will significantly raise his wages and release clause and sources claim that talks have been very positive.
Throughout his career, Yeray has been outspoken about his desire to continue at Athletic. He grew up an Athletic fan and the club has supported him through two battles with testicular cancer. Now his dedication will be put to the test. There’s no doubt that Yeray can perform at the highest level and it will be up to him to decide his future. If Yeray does sign a new contract it will likely be a statement that he will continue at San Mamés, but the choice is his to make.
