The season is finally over, but not everything has been decided. The future of Aritz Aduriz is still uncertain with the striker’s contract set to expire in June. Athletic made a renewal offer several months ago and are still waiting for an answer. A recent report claims that Aduriz has decided to continue for another season, though nothing has been made official.

Several sources have suggested that qualifying for Europe would be the deciding factor for the 38-year-old. “Hopefully Aduriz’s renewal doesn’t depend on one thing or the other”, Garitano said after Saturday’s game when asked about the situation. “We are trying to convince him to continue and I think we will do it. He can still give us a lot and it’s a position that we need strength. He can contribute a lot on the field and in the locker room. I would like for him to continue, but it depends on him.”

Aitor Elizegi also weighed in on the future of the striker. “I’m sure Aduriz is thinking about what’s best for Athletic”, the President stated. “My impression is that he will do what’s best for Athletic.” Aritz Aduriz has made 390 appearances for Athletic throughout his career, scoring 171 goals, and is already a club legend.
