Iñigo Lekue To Miss Final Game Of The Season With Muscle Injury
Saturday’s match against Sevilla will be the final game of the season for Athletic and it will be pivotal. The Lions will be playing for a place in the Europa League next year and Gaizka Garitano took the opportunity to call up the entire squad for the trip. However, one player was forced to be left behind due to injury.
Immediately after announcing the squad list for the match, Athletic also announced that Iñigo Lekue has been diagnosed with a muscle injury in his right leg. This prevented the right-back from being able to travel with his teammates to Seville and he will have to watch the game from home.
It’s been a difficult year for Lekue. The 25-year-old suffered a fractured ankle before the season started and finally returned to training months later only to be forced out again due to lower back surgery. Lekue did return to the field a few weeks ago and played rather well, but his season will end the same way it started – on the sidelines.
