Athletic Announce Iñigo Muñoz Will Leave The Club This Summer
Iñigo Muñoz’s first year at Bilbao Athletic was a massive success. Having joined the club from Gernika, the winger featured in 31 matches and scored 2 goals while also making his first team debut in the Copa Del Rey against Formentera. Over the summer he was rewarded with the chance to train with the senior squad before eventually returning to Bilbao Athletic.
This year hasn’t been as kind to Muñoz. Though he still managed to score 2 goals, the 22-year-old only featured in 23 matches as he dealt with an ongoing back injury that, at one point, sidelined him for 2 months. Without a clear path to the first team the winger’s time at Athletic is coming to a close.
On Tuesday afternoon Athletic officially announced that Muñoz will not continue at the club this summer. The 22-year-old will not be offered a contract renewal and his current deal will be allowed to expire on 30 June.
Munoz worked very hard from his first day at the club and has modeled his game after Iker Muniain whom he admires greatly. The winger will now look to join another club this summer and will have plenty of offers from the Segunda B and possible the Segunda as well.
