Athletic Club Extend Partnership With Aviron Bayonnais Through 2021
Athletic Club’s dedication and commitment to youth football is unprecedented. The Basque giants are always looking for ways to improve the development of football in the Basque Country and have several partnerships with other clubs in the region to work together in this area. These collaborations have yielded amazing results and even more success will follow.
On Monday, Athletic officially announced that they have extended their partnership with Aviron Bayonnais through 30 June, 2021. The two clubs first signed a collaboration agreement back in 2008 which expired in June of last year. The deal was not renewed due to Athletic’s upcoming presidential election at the time, but both clubs signed the new agreement yesterday at San Mamés.
President Aitor Elizegi attended the signing of the contract along with, Athletic Foundation President Juan Carlos Ercoreca, General Manager Jon Berasategi, and Martin Urrejola who is responsible for the relations with partnered clubs. Aviron President Sangare Lausseni was also in attendance as well as Alexi Capela who oversees the relations with Athletic.
Aviron Bayonnais is a club based in Baiona, France which is in the Iparralde region of the Basque Country. As stated by Athletic, this partnership “seeks the development and empowerment of the lower levels of football in Iparralde.” The most famous player to join Athletic from Aviron is none other than Aymeric Laporte, while Mathys Lunel is the most recent signing from the Aviron academy and currently playing with the Athletic Juvenil B team.
