Dani García “I’m Available To The Coach”
When Dani García went down injured against Rayo Vallecano a few weeks ago it looked as though his season was over. The midfielder had suffered a relapse of a recent hamstring injury and after the game Gaizka Garitano told reporters that it likely meant the midfielder would miss the rest of the year with just a few games left to play. Luckily, that won’t the case.
García returned to training earlier this week and is expected to be in the squad for Sunday’s trip to Real Valladolid. “We were very scared because it was a relapse”, he said during Thursday’s press conference. “The day it happened I didn’t know what would happen. I spent two weeks training hard. I wanted to play against Alavés, but it was a bit risky. Now I’m available to the coach.”
Gaizka Garitano has had to deal without several important players due to injury but those days may now be over. “Seeing him (Capa) train you can see that he’s 100%”, said García. The Mister will also have the luxury of being able to count on Yeray and Ibai Gómez who have also missed matches while recovering from injuries.
With just three games left, Athletic still have everything to play for. The Lions currently sit 7th in the La Liga table with a 3 point lead over Alavés. If the Basques are going to qualify for Europe they must continue adding points but it won’t be easy. For Dani García, Sunday’s trip to Real Valladolid is the most import. “This next game is the most complicated one of the three we have left because of everything that’s being played for and because it’s on the road.” Athletic must get a positive result to stay in position to secure a top 7 finish this season.
