Dani García, Ander Capa, And Yeray Return To Training At Lezama
It’s been a difficult few weeks for Athletic. Not only have the Lions had to manage a grueling schedule, they’ve also done so while having several key players unavailable due to injury. Manager Gaizka Garitano has been creative with his selections in order to keep the team fresh while also getting positive results, but it certainly hasn’t been easy. Thankfully, there’s a light at the end of the tunnel.
Ibai Gómez was able to return to normal training on Sunday and all signs point to the winger being available for Sunday’s trip to Real Valladolid. Things got even better on Tuesday when Dani García, Ander Capa, and Yeray made their returns to training as well. All four players worked with the group without any complications. The club will be cautious with them, but with only three games left there is a chance that they will be called up for this weekend’s match.
Those who started Saturday’s match against Alavés spent training playing a game of Fútbol-Tennis as a form of recovery. Beñat and Iñigo Córdoba were not at the training session and Iñigo Martinez worked out inside before coming out for the Fútbol-Tennis matches. There is no concern about injuries with any of these players who are said to have been given a lighter load in hopes of staying fresh for the weekend which has been a common practice under Garitano.
In addition, the Mister also called up several players from Bilbao Athletic in order to lead a full training session. Jon Rojo, Jon Morcillo, Antonio Salado, Asier Córdoba, Iñigo Baqué, and Iñigo Muñoz all spent the day with the first team. Athletic will train again on Wednesday and Thursday but will have Friday off. The team will return to training on Saturday before leaving for Valladolid.
