Ibai Gómez Returns To Training At Lezama
Athletic have been in a difficult situation over the past few weeks. Between suspensions and several important players picking up injuries, Gaizka Garitano has been forced to rotate the team and find ways to fill holes. Despite the issues, Athletic have continued to perform well and are now in a position to qualify for Europe with just three games left to play.
Every point is crucial at this point in the season. Luckily, things will get better. Ibai Gómez was able to return to training on Sunday and is expected to be ready to play in the last two matches against Celta Vigo and Sevilla. There is also a possibility that Gómez could be cleared for Sunday’s trip to Real Valladolid, but the club will be cautious with the winger.
Meanwhile, Yeray, Dani García, and Ander Capa continued to train apart from the group. Garitano revealed after Saturday’s draw with Alavés that the club expects the trio to be back on the field before the end of the season. It doesn’t seem as though any of them will be able to feature this weekend, but if things continue to improve they could be back in the squad against Celta Vigo.
Bilbao Athletic were also at Lezama on Sunday where they fell 2-0 to Sporting. Gorka Guruzeta was forced to leave the match after half an hour with a knee injury and the same happened to Dani Vivian in the second half after suffering a left shoulder injury. Gorka Pérez and Jon Morcillo were called up to train with the first team during the match.
