Ander Herrera Reportedly Tempted By Offer To Return To Athletic Club
Ander Herrera will be leaving Manchester United this summer when his contract expires. Despite playing at a high level for the English side, there have been no negotiations for renewal and the 29-year-old is said to have already made up his mind to leave Old Trafford. Naturally, he will have plenty of suitors and Athletic will do everything possible to bring him back to the club.
For the past few weeks it’s looked certain that Herrera would be joining PSG. Reports claimed that the French giants had offered the midfielder a massive salary and enticing bonuses built into his contract. Some sources went as far to say that an agreement was already in place, but that isn’t the case. A break report from L’Equipe states that Herrera has not agreed to anything and that he has also received a serious offer from Athletic.
The report goes on to reveal that Herrera is very interested in the idea of returning to Athletic. He played for the Lions from 2011-2014 before leaving to join Manchester United. L’Equipe also claims that PSG are worried that the Athletic offer will tempt Herrera into rejected their own, however RMC report that the Parisians are confident that they will still be able to convince the 29-year-old to come to France.
There is still a lot of uncertainty surrounding Herrera’s future. Ignacio Camacho of AS has reported that there is actually an agreement in place for a four-year contract with PSG. However, the latest report from Javier Sainz of Mundo Deportivo claims that Herrera has rejected PSG’s offer that includes €6 million in annual wages. Athletic are said to have proposed an even better deal that has a longer duration.
If Athletic do manage to sign Ander Herrera it would be a massive move. Not only would he bring proven quality into the squad, but he would also return for free. President Aitor Elizegi has also been outspoken about the club’s pursuit of Javi Martinez who will be another big transfer target this summer. Regardless of what happens, it’s clear that Athletic are serious about improving the team and competing for a European title next season.
